Person taken to hospital with serious injuries after van smashes head on into bus in Stockport

A person was left injured after a van smashed into a double decker bus head on in Offerton, Stockport.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash shortly after 5pm, along Marple Road on Tuesday (March 22), with drivers diverted temporarily down Marple Old Road. The driver of the bus was treated at the scene and one other passenger reported minor injuries.

One other person was taken to hospital with serious injuries which are not thought to be life threatening. Pictures from the scene show the front of the van visibly damaged, as the front of the 384 bus also had its windscreen smashed.

The North West Ambulance Service confirmed that one person was taken to hospital with 'serious injuries' but that they were not considered to be life threatening.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Police were called around 5.15pm on Tuesday 22 March 2022 to a report of a collision involving a bus and a van on Marple Road, Offerton. A man was taken to hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening. Enquiries are ongoing."

A Stagecoach spokesperson said: “At 17:00 on 22nd March, one of our buses was involved in a collision with a van on Marple Road. The accident occurred when the bus was driving around the corner and was met by a van that had partially crossed over onto the opposite side of the carriageway.

“The driver was treated at the scene by paramedics and is recovering well and one customer reported a minor injury. The safety of our drivers, our customers and other road users is paramount to us and we are working with Greater Manchester Police to investigate the full details of what happened.”
