Person taken to hospital following three-vehicle crash in South Gosforth near Freeman Hospital

A person was taken to hospital following a three-vehicle collision in Newcastle.

Three vehicles crashed on Freeman Road, near the two mini roundabouts, in South Gosforth on Thursday afternoon. Police and paramedics rushed to the scene shortly before 3pm.

The road was blocked in both directions while the emergency services including, police officers, paramedics and firefighters worked at the scene. One person was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in the city for treatment.

A North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) spokesperson said: "We received a call at 2.51pm to reports of a road traffic incident on Freeman Road, South Gosforth.

"We dispatched two ambulance crews and one clinical team leader. One patient was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) for further treatment."

The collision led to queuing traffic in the area as well and public transport to the Freeman Hospital was diverted. The road had reopened again by rush hour.

Parts of a red Ford car, including a roof and a boot door, were left at the scene following the collision after a person was cut free by firefighters.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Shortly before 3pm today, we received a report of a three-vehicle collision on Freeman Road, Newcastle.

Emergency services attended and three people are believed to have suffered injuries not thought to be life-threatening.

"Freeman Road is currently closed between the junction with Castle Farm Road and Haddricks Mill Road while the vehicles involved are removed from the scene."
