Emergency services scrambled to a major Tameside road following a crash involving a car and a tram. Police, fire crews and paramedics were sent out to the scene on Droylsden Road, at the border of Audenshaw and Droylsden, before 9am today (May 10).
Officers closed off part of the road while dealing with the crash, which involved a black Nissan Qashqai and a tram on the Ashton-under-Lyne Metrolink line. The Nissan driver, a woman in her 30s, was taken to hospital by ambulance after being 'freed' from the car.
No trams were able to run between the Ashton and Velopark stops for more than an hour following the smash. A GMFRS spokesperson said: “At 9am on Wednesday, May 10, firefighters were called out to a road traffic collision involving a tram and a car on Droylsden Road, Audenshaw.

"Two fire engines from Philips Park and Ashton-under-Lyne - as well as a Technical Response Unit from Leigh - attended the scene and assisted one casualty from the vehicle who was then left in the care of North West Ambulance Service. Crews were detained 20 minutes.”
It's understood no arrests have been made following the collision. The road has since fully reopened.
A Transport for Greater Manchester spokesperson added: “At 8.50am this morning there was a collision between a car and a tram on the line approaching the Droylsden Metrolink stop, resulting in no service between Ashton and Velopark. Emergency services arrived on the scene just after 9am to help free the driver from their car.
"The tram was deemed safe just before 10am and normal service resumed shortly after.”
