Person killed after being struck by a train in Dunfermline

A PERSON has died after they were struck by a train in a Scottish city on Monday night.

The incident, which took place in Dunfermline just before 11pm, is not being treated as suspicious.

The person’s identity has not been released but it is understood their next of kin have been informed.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to the line close to Dunfermline Queen Margaret station shortly before 11pm last night following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal."

As a result, trains between Edinburgh Waverley and Glenrothes were disrupted from 11pm until the end of services.

Scotrail services from Edinburgh Waverley to Glenrothes were diverted from Dunfermline City via Kirkcaldy.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail's head of customer operations, said: "Some ScotRail services were disrupted late last night.

"Sadly, this was due to a person being struck by a train between Cowdenbeath and Inverkeithing.

"Anyone affected by this incident can contact Samaritans for free of charge, any time, from any phone, on 116 123."
