Person in hospital with serious head injury after horror crash on A1M at Boston Spa

A person has been rushed to hospital with a "serious head injury" following a crash on the A1M through Boston Spa.

Emergency services including an air ambulance were called to the scene after 9.30am (December 27) to a crash on the busy highway in the north Leeds district. West Yorkshire Police attended the scene on the northbound carriageway at Junction 45, which also saw a number of people treated for minor injuries.

The highway has been cleared and reopened but there are still reports of long delays. A force spokesperson said: "There were a number of people with minor injuries and one person taken to hospital with a serious head injury, which is not believed to be life-threatening."

Highways England has said there are still delays on both sides of the carriageway at Boston Spa. Traffic Cameras show long queues of traffic on the busy carriageway and drivers have been urged to consider alternative routes.

Our traffic and travel partner Inrix said: "Long delays and queuing traffic due to earlier accident on A1(M) northbound at J45 A659 Wattlesyke (Boston Spa). Congestion to J42 (Selby Fork). All lanes have been re-opened. Road fully re-opened around 13.20."
