A PERSON has been hit by a train travelling on the line between Ayrshire and Glasgow.
ScotRail has issued advice for all travelling on the route as the incident is handled.
The rail operator says the person was struck between Milliken Park and Howwood, resulting in the closure of a large part of the route.
In the most recent update provided, ScotRail say that all Largs, Ardrossan and Ayr services heading to Glasgow will terminate at Kilwinning.
They say that replacement transport is at Kilwinning to allow customers to complete their onward journey.
Passengers travelling from Glasgow to Ayrshire are being advised to use Gourock/Wemyss Bay services as far as Paisley Gilmour Street, where replacement transport to Ayrshire is available.
A ticket acceptance scheme is also in place with bus operator McGill's on their Johnstone-Glasgow and Largs-Glasgow (via Gourock/Greenock) routes.
A spokesperson said: "Because of a person being hit by a train between Milliken Park and Howwood, all lines are closed.
"Disruption is expected to last until around 2pm today, Friday July 12.
"We are working closely with emergency services during this time and will keep you updated."
