Person dies on train tracks between Manchester and Liverpool

A person has died on train tracks between Manchester and Liverpool.

Emergency services were called to the scene near Huyton railway station in Merseyside just before 9am this morning (Wednesday) following reports of a casualty on the track. The person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

British Transport Police said the incident is not being treated as suspicious. A file will be passed to the coroner.

The train line between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Victoria was blocked this morning as emergency services responded to the incident. TransPennine and Northern services between the stations were cancelled and delayed.

According to National Rail, the line is now clear. Some disruption could continue until 2pm.

In a statement, a British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Huyton railway station at 8.57am today (17 August) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and file will be prepared for the coroner."
