Person dies following reports of casualty on tracks at Coatdyke train station

A person has died following reports of a casualty on the tracks at a train station near Glasgow.

British Transport Police (BTP) were called to Coatdyke station in Coatbridge at 5:39am this morning after the alarm was raised.

Emergency services attended and sadly the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

ScotRail services between Blairhill and Airdrie suffered disruption this morning at 7am while emergency services attended.

BTP officers are now working to identify the deceased and establish the full circumstances behind their death.

A BTP spokeswoman said: "British Transport Police were called to Coatdyke station at 5.39am this morning (5 April) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are currently working to identify the deceased and establish the full circumstances behind their death."
