Person dies after being struck by a train at Lanarkshire station

A person has tragically died after being hit by a train at a train station in Lanarkshire.

Emergency services raced to Coatdyke station after the alarm was raised at around 5.39am this morning.

Ambulance crews attended but the individual was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

At around 7am this morning, ScotRail services between Blairhill and Airdrie were disrupted while emergency services attended.

British Transport Police (BTP) officers are now working to identify the deceased and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances behind the death.

A BTP spokesperson told Lanarkshire Live : "Officers were called to Coatdyke station at 5.39am this morning (April 5) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are currently working to identify the deceased and establish the full circumstances behind their death."
