A person has died after being hit by a train at Widnes railway station on Monday morning.
National Rail confirmed emergency services were in attendance after a person was hit by a train between Liverpool Lime Street and Warrington. Paramedics attended but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
British Transport Police confirmed to the ECHO that officers were called at 9.48am following reports of a casualty on the track. They added: "Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

A spokesperson said: "Lines have now reopened following an earlier incident where a person was hit by a train between Liverpool Lime Street and Warrington Central. Trains running between these stations may still be cancelled, delayed or revised whilst services return to normal. This is expected until 12:30.
