Perryman with broken ribs from AFL clash

GWS midfielder Harry Perryman has been cleared of internal damage but faces an indefinite period on the AFL sidelines with four broken ribs.

The 23-year-old was taken to hospital on Sunday after a heavy collision with North Melbourne's Flynn Perez during the Giants' 49-point win at Marvel Stadium.

Perryman has since been released from hospital and will be monitored in Melbourne before flying home to Sydney.

"It's disappointing for Harry, who is always one of our most consistent players, but had been excelling in a new midfield role over recent weeks," Giants football boss Jason McCartney said.

"He was typically tough and courageous when he approached the contest where he got injured and unfortunately it will sideline him for a while.

"He's had great care over the last 24 hours and we're pleased he'll be able to return home later this week.

"He'll take it easy for now and we're looking forward to him returning to the field later in the year."

There is good news for Fremantle wingman Blake Acres, who has avoided serious damage to his injured hamstring.

Dockers football boss Peter Bell described Acres' injury as a "moderate grade".

Fremantle have the bye in round 14 before an away clash with fellow top-four contenders Carlton.

"It's obviously disappointing for Blake, who played some great football this season," Bell said.

"He's motivated to work hard throughout the break to ensure he can return as soon as possible."
