'Perfect storm' - Former Liverpool star makes Sadio Mane claim after Bayern Munich move

Former Liverpool star Danny Murphy has provided potential reasons why Sadio Mane would have wanted to leave the club.

Mane has completed a move to Bayern Munich in a deal worth up to £35miilion. Liverpool will receive a fixed fee of €32m (£27.4m) with a further €9m (£7.7m) in add-ons.

From those add-ons, the Reds will pocket €6m (£5.1m) based on appearances with the remaining €3m (£2.6m) based on individual and team achievements. The fee eclipses what Liverpool paid Southampton for the forward back in 2016, with that deal proving to be worth £31m with a further £2.5m in add-ons.

Murphy has given his opinion on why he thinks Mane may have wanted to leave Anfield. The former Liverpool midfielder went on to say how he thinks Reds fans will remember the 30-year-old.

"I think there’s very few times when a player leaves a club in a perfect storm,” Murphy told BeMyBet . “There’s always something where somebody is asked to leave or somebody wants a fresh challenge.

"Some people might question why you’d want to leave Liverpool, but there are always reasons why players want to leave clubs.

"He was probably feeling a little bit disgruntled from a financial point of view, because he’s been pretty low down in the pecking order in terms of the best paid player.

‘Also, it’s very hard to be judgmental of somebody when we don’t know his personal reasons, family reasons, footballing reasons to sometimes want a different challenge.

"When you’re not born and bred in a Liverpool area it’s not necessarily your dream and your ambition to play for Liverpool your whole career. Like it would be for someone like me, you would never want to leave.

‘But, he might have had a desire to play in a different league and try to challenge himself. We just don’t know."

Murphy added: “I think what he’s achieved at Liverpool, the way he conducted himself, the performances on the pitch will keep his legacy intact.

"I think he will be remembered.

"I think that nearly all the Liverpool fans wish him well. I think that the fans will remember all the good stuff."
