Pep Guardiola tells Arsenal why they should be grateful even if they lose title race to Man City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes finishing in the top four is achievement enough for Arsenal even if they miss out on the title.

Mikel Arteta's team had led the way in the Premier League for much of the season. However, a dip in form which saw them drop points to West Ham, Liverpool and Southampton has put the title back in City's hands.

On Tuesday night, Arsenal returned to the top of the table after a comfortable 3-1 victory over Chelsea. But should the Blues beat the Hammers on Wednesday night, they will move back to the summit with a game in hand over the north London club.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Guardiola explained how Arsenal fans should be more grateful for the progress they have made this season. "It was difficult because we saw how relentless Arsenal is," the City boss said.

"Arsenal, after seven years, is already in Champions League qualification [places]. It is perspective, no? Maybe the mood there is a bit down.

"After seven years they won the most important title of the season for the club, to qualify for the Champions League because financially, prestigious, new signings for many things, it is the most important title today, by far. It is already there.

"They lost the last game and they are sad but no I am pretty sure they have to be so happy because they make an incredible achievement." Last season, Arsenal looked to be on their way to Champions League qualification but they fumbled the opportunity, finishing fifth behind fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
