Pep Guardiola 'targets' Real Madrid defender and other Man City transfer rumours

Manchester City want to sign France defender Ferland Mendy from Real Madrid - according to reports.

Mendy, 27, remains first choice left-back for the Spanish giants. However, the highly-rated player was overlooked for World Cup duty by his national team with clubmate Eduardo Camavinga instead getting the nod. Mendy began his career with PSG and signed for Real from Lyon for €48million in 2019.

He remains under contract at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2025. City have already signed one left-back this season with Sergio Gomez arriving from Anderlecht, but he has not yet been able to break into the starting team with any regularity, while Portugal defender Joao Cancelo has also struggled this campaign.

Spanish publication Sport suggests there could be a domino effect - sparked by Real signing Bayern Munich starlet Alphonso Davies - with Mendy ending up at the Etihad Stadium moving forward. Bayern have already moved for a new left-back, of sorts, with the versatile Daley Blind joining them on a free transfer from Ajax.

Elsewhere, the pursuit for England starlet Jude Bellingham has seemingly taken another twist with City reported to be willing to match any offer from elsewhere for the teenager. Bellingham, 19, has emerged as a top European force during his time at Borussia Dortmund and is widely expected to move on to a new adventure next summer.

Real Madrid are understood to be leading the race - although that changes on an almost daily basis - while Premier League rivals Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United are, also, on red alert. Spanish publication Marca claims that Bellingham will go for €140million and City would be willing to match or better that fee.

That would see the club smash their own British transfer record after snapping up England teammate Jack Grealish from Aston Villa for £100million. Marca states that Liverpool are already looking at alternative options.
