Pep Guardiola sets Man City clear Tottenham challenge as Arne Slot faces impressive record

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has claimed that his next target after attempting to win the treble this season will be to score a goal away at Tottenham next campaign. The Spaniard has already led his side to their fifth Premier League title in six years, pipping Arsenal to the trophy last week.

The champions now face an FA Cup final and Champions League final to cap off another historic trophy haul, despite the overshadowing 115 charges from the Premier League for alleged breaches of financial charges. While there's plenty going on in the world of City, there's clearly one thing still frustrating Guardiola... Spurs.

In his previous five trips to the Lilywhites, the tactician has lost all five across all competitions without a single goal in reply. This year he was left annoyed once again as he left north London with a 1-0 defeat in February in yet another repeat of previous matches between the two clubs.

It's an impressive record that the next head coach of Tottenham will have to take on, with reports claiming that Feyenoord boss Arne Slot has said "yes" to a move to N17. If he is to take the role, the main job will be getting the project at the club back on track and returning to the very top.

One of the challenges standing in the way will likely be City once again, with Guardiola seeking revenge going into next season. When asked by Sky Sports on his aims for next season if the treble is won, the manager said: "Score a goal against Spurs away [laughs]."

The interviewer replies: "Possible?" to which Guardiola clasps his hands together and says: "It's why I stay, I want to beat the Spurs away."

While Guardiola's aims will be to topple Spurs in the away fixture, the challenge of the next manager at the club will be to do the same to City on the league stage in the long-term. Whether they will see that through remains to be seen, but the focus at each side is clearly different.
