Pep Guardiola sends message to Erik Ten Hag after appointment at Manchester United

Pep Guardiola says Manchester United have appointed a top class manager in Erik Ten Hag.

Ten Hag was confirmed as United's new manager from next season this week, where one of his tasks will be to close the gap between them and Manchester City — with the Blues confirmed to finish above United for a ninth straight season.

Since Guardiola has been at City, United have changed manager four times now, and the Blues boss has reflected on Ten Hag's arrival in Manchester in the summer, having worked together at Bayern Munich previously.

When Guardiola was manager at Bayern, Ten Hag was coaching in the academy before moving to Ajax and impressing with his attractive style, use of young players and progress in Europe.

"Watch his Ajax team and you see his qualities," said Guardiola in his City press conference ahead of their clash with Watford in the Premier League on Saturday.

"Congratulations to Erik and wish him all the best. He is a top class manager, his teams are a joy to watch at a team like Ajax."

Guardiola won't come up against Ten Hag until next season, but their rivalry in Manchester should be an intriguing one.
