Pep Guardiola sends Arsenal and Liverpool message as Man City win sixth Premier League title

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has sent a message to Arsenal and Liverpool after winning his fifth Premier League title. The Spaniard has matched Manchester United's achievement by leading City to a third consecutive title.

The Gunners pushed City all the way this season but ultimately fell short after seeing their rivals crowned champions following a 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest. Mikel Arteta apologised to fans on a sad day for Arsenal but still showed his class by congratulating Guardiola's side on their success.

Injuries to William Saliba, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus this term did not help the north Londoners' challenge for the title when coming against City's immense squad depth and quality. Arteta will hope the summer transfer window allows Arsenal to bring in reinforcements as they look to challenge for the title once again next term.

Speaking ahead of City’s win against Chelsea, Guardiola was full of praise for Arsenal, managed by his former assistant Mikel Arteta. "Every Premier League [trophy] is special," Guardiola said before City faced Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium.

"When you win three in a row it means consistency, especially against Liverpool and especially this year against an incredible, incredible Arsenal. I give credit for the quality of our opponents.

"In the past it was Liverpool and now it is Arsenal. Both teams bring us to our limits."

Guardiola has previously suggested that the Gunners should be delighted with finishing second in the Premier League, after they secured their return to the Champions League. "Ask the owners from Arsenal what it means after six, seven years being out of the Champions League [to now be back],’ the Spaniard said last month.

"Next season Arsenal will be playing the elite, the best teams in Europe in an incredible competition. [This season] is a success, absolutely."
