Pep Guardiola namechecks Celtic in bullish Man City defence as he explains advantage over Rangers

The Scottish Premiership season is edging closer with a blockbuster title on the cards - but Manchester City Pep Guardiola may have already predicted the winner.

The Spaniard spent last season fielding questions about the spending power City have over their English Premier League rivals as the club marched towards a third consecutive title - as well as a clean sweep of honours in England and the Champions League trophy. Guardiola insisted that his club HAD to spend big if they hoped to continue to dominate and bring silverware to the Etihad - namechecking Celtic in a blistering defence of his side.

He classed the Hoops among an elite group of sides as he explained why Rangers had struggled to match Celtic impressive silverware haul and dethrone the Scottish Premiership champions as he defending City. Speaking last season, he said: “When you achieve what this team - winning a lot, a lot of games - it’s because we have to have a lot of top players. You can win one title with average players.

"To win more than one title you have to have top, top players. And top players cost money. When Bayern Munich or Barcelona or Madrid or United or Milan or Celtic in Glasgow with Rangers - Celtic win more titles because they have more money than the other clubs. So the way we are doing it, every manager has his own way.”
