Pep Guardiola makes Julian Alvarez prediction as Phil Foden addresses life at Man City

Guardiola makes Alvarez prediction after Palace victory

Julian Alvarez will have a key role to play for City this season, Pep Guardiola says, after a week that has mightily impressed his new manager.

Alvarez has had to wait for his opportunities so far this season after arriving in the summer, with Erling Haaland starting every competitive game so far, scoring six goals in the process. Alvarez scored on his debut against Liverpool, and looked dangerous in the friendly with Barcelona this week where he opened the scoring for City.

He came off the bench for City against Crystal Palace with the Blues trailing 2-1, and was in the heart of the action as he flicked on a cross to Phil Foden to send the ball back in for Haaland to level the scores. Alvarez then looked good on the left-wing as Foden moved inside, and Guardiola was full of praise for the Argentine after the game.

Foden lifts the lid on life at City and training with Haaland

Foden has opened up on having a better understanding with Guardiola, the impact of Haaland in their side and Mikel Arteta's influence as a coach.

Guardiola's side fought back from two goals down to win 4-2 on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium. The Blues were tested and - not for the first time this season - showed great resilience to roar back thanks primarily to Haaland's hat-trick and a stellar performance from Bernardo Silva.

Foden has already registered a goal and two assists in City's first four games of the season, but his link-up play with Haaland came under the spotlight in the opening matches. The 22-year-old had chances to square the ball to the Norwegian striker against both Bournemouth and Newcastle, opting to shoot instead on both occasions. But on Saturday it was his cross for Haaland to convert that kick-started the Blues' brilliant comeback.

There is no doubt that Haaland's teammates are still getting to grips with having a striker of his calibre in their team, yet Foden will be all too aware that his new striker will more than likely have found a yard of space in the box as City charge forward.
