Pep Guardiola makes Gabriel Jesus comparison as Arsenal told he is 'the best' in key area

Pep Guardiola has told Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta that his new recruit Gabriel Jesus is one of the best strikers 'defensively' in world football.

Jesus, 25, has settled into life in north London with aplomb so far as demonstrated with his electric start on the United States pre-season tour. So far, the Brazilian has scored three goals from his first four outings whilst he played a big part in Eddie Nketiah's goal in the most recent victory against Orlando City.

It's a signing that has created much excitement within the Gunners fanbase already as they look to fully move on from Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang respectively. If Arsenal were to make the top four this time around, they will need their new number 9 to fire right from the off with a double digits return which was a tally that evaded all of their strikers for 2021/22.

Despite never being the main man at the Etihad, Jesus has usually hit double-digit figures for goals on the regular for Guardiola's man. That will be expected of Jesus in the red and white of Arsenal but Arteta's former managerial companion has also highlighted another area of the game whereby the £45m new recruit could further strengthen and help the Gunners in the long run.

Surprisingly it is in an unexpected area of the pitch- the defence. Guardiola, when making a direct comparison to City's new up-and-coming prospect Julian Alvarez.

“Incredible, defensively he is quite similar like Gabriel [Jesus], the Spanish manager said on pre-season via talkSPORT. "Gabriel is probably the best, but he is close to him in aggression and how intuitive he is, he makes the runs and with the ball he’s absolutely brilliant…”

Jesus' pressing from the front is certainly an aspect which can help the north London outfit, in the long run, adapt their game to an extent whereby defending from the front will help Arteta get the best out of his new summer signing.
