Pep Guardiola jokes he wishes Man City played Liverpool a day earlier

Pep Guardiola said that Manchester City vs Liverpool would be better on Saturday - because it would avoid clashing with the final day of The Masters.

City take on Liverpool on Sunday afternoon in a highly anticipated clash between the two best sides in club football, and the stakes could hardly be higher; one point separates them at the top of the table, with a huge three up for grabs at the Etihad. With a high-quality match enhanced even more by the stakes, millions will be tuning in.

Guardiola cut a relaxed figure throughout his press conference ahead of the game, joking that he would only invite Jurgen Klopp for a glass of wine after the game if City won and saying that he would sleep like a baby this weekend before enjoying the football. And the keen golfer joked that he had a bone to pick with the Premier League for scheduling the match at the same time as Tiger Woods could be playing in his final round at Augusta.

Woods was a surprise entry for the tournament this week, coming just 14 months after a life-threatening car accident that nearly cost him his leg. A first-round score of one-under-par left him four shots off the lead, raising hopes he could make the cut and be in contention on the final day.

"I like to admit my players are exceptional. I don't want to say for the staff, who they are. Many years doing good things," said Guardiola.

"It's not because we are ahead of anyone, it's because they are incredible. You see and analyse them and say oh my god. Everything is top. This is what I need personally to improve myself. Come on, let's try to beat them and what we can do to beat them.

"That's why I love it and to be here today for Sunday's game. I sleep like a baby this year. I'm looking forward to Sunday, could be tomorrow that would be better. I'm a little bit upset with the Premier League because they put the game when Tiger Woods is back!"
