Pep Guardiola has helped Mikel Arteta resolve Arsenal's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang fallout

Mikel Arteta has divided the opinion of fans after the situation concerning Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and whether the culture he is installing at the club is too strict.

However, the Spaniard spent three years as a coach at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola who is considered one of, if not the best manager in the world and would have certainly incorporated some of his philosophies into Arsenal.

In recent years, the Gunners have been labelled as soft, which has been down to a lack of discipline in the dressing room.

It is clear Arteta has a stern stance on changing the culture at the club and with him having been amongst an elite culture at Manchester City, he should continue the path he is going down.

Aubameyang aimed a slight dig towards Arteta during his first press conference as a Barcelona player.

“My last few months at Arsenal were complicated, that’s football sometimes. For my part, I never wanted to do anything wrong. My problem was only with Arteta. I can’t say much more, I wasn’t happy.”

Aubameyang was banished from the first-team squad due to a string of consistent disciplinary issues, despite being the Arsenal captain.

In previous years, the 32-year-old may have been able to work his way back into the squad, but Arteta having taken experience from Guardiola and incorporating his own ideas, ensured that player discipline must be taken seriously in an effort to set high standards.

This was something echoed by Manchester City player Kevin De Bruyne, which also explains Arteta’s ideologies. Speaking to L’equipe, the Belgian international said “Man City looks for the best players, but also learns about personal life, the way you behave. They know how to create a group. It’s a little different from what is done at PSG.”

Arteta became a student of Pep Guardiola after joining the Manchester City coaching staff in 2016. His ideology is very similar to the City boss in terms of squad togetherness and creating a culture at the club.

Previously speaking on this matter, Arteta said: “If you don't have the right culture, in the difficult moments, the tree is going to shake, so my job is to convince everybody that this is how we are going to live, and if you are going to be part of this organisation it has to be in these terms and in this way.”

It’s clear that Arteta wanted to implement a culture of following a strict rule guideline as soon as he was appointed manager of the club in 2019, this was further proven by his unhappiness towards Matteo Guendouz.

The same situation followed with Mesut Ozil, which is why the club eventually agreed to mutually terminate his contract. Arteta has implemented a culture at the club that does not allow any attitude issues to disrupt the squad harmony.

The Spaniard's methods may be deemed too strict, but he has been amongst an elite culture at Manchester City, ultimately leading to a winning formula.
