Pep Guardiola gives Man City injury updates on John Stones and Phil Foden

Pep Guardiola confirmed that Phil Foden and John Stones were taken off with injury concerns in their Premier League game with Brighton.

It was a strong Manchester City team that lined up on the south coast despite the fact they had already won the title, and they were given one of their biggest tests this season against a Brighton side that confirmed a Europa League place for next season for Roberto De Zerbi's men. Foden gave the Blues the lead against the run of play before a superb Julio Enciso strike earned the home team a point in a match that also featured three disallowed goals.

City arrived without five first-team players - Manu Akanji, Nathan Ake, Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte, and Jack Grealish - that Guardiola said were injured, and that influenced the decision to take Stones off towards the end of the game when he felt something given there is a lack of fit central defenders. However, taking Foden off five minutes into the second half was a result of listening to the medical staff that said he had a dangerous knock.

"Phil had a knock in the first half, problems in the leg, the doctor told me it was dangerous and we didn't take a risk. Phil was exceptional in the first half before that," he said.

"John felt tight, he didn’t have anything, we didn’t want to take a risk, so hopefully he can recover as soon as possible."
