Pep Guardiola gives early Man City team news vs Chelsea amid Erling Haaland and Kyle Walker worry

Pep Guardiola has provided some early team news ahead of Chelsea's trip to the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday evening. Manchester City are set to lock horns with the Blues on November 9 in the Carabao Cup third round and the Spaniard has named a number of players who will feature in the squad.

Erling Haaland was omitted from the starting XI to face Fulham following his return from injury. The 22-year-old picked up a knock in the Champions League last week upon his return to Borussia Dortmund and missed the previous pair of City matches.

The striker was brought off the bench to replace Julian Alvarez with little under half an hour to play. And, Haaland wasted no time and he was quickly among the goals, netting a match-winning penalty late into stoppage time, despite the hosts going down to 10 men with Joao Cancelo sent off after just 26 minutes.

The Norway international will be eager to continue his goal-scoring streak with a start against Chelsea after returning from a slight injury. Meanwhile, Kyle Walker has been on the doctor's table too.

The 32-year-old defender was forced off in the first-half of the Manchester Derby due to feeling discomfort in his groin. He's been on the sidelines ever since City waltzed away 6-3 victors over rival Manchester United.

As has fellow England international Kalvin Phillips, who has had an injury-interrupted start to his City career. In September, it was confirmed that the midfielder would undergo surgery on his shoulder after it popped out "three or four times" but it's said that he has recovered well.

Speaking to the press following the dramatic win over Fulham, Guardiola confirmed that the Englishmen will be involved in some capacity on Wednesday evening. He said: "They feel much better, yesterday Kalvin was the second day that he did a full training session with contact with us and he felt good.

"Against Chelsea he will be on the bench, whether to play or not I don’t know but he will be on bench - Kalvin is much better. I spoke with Kyle and he feels good too but his surgery was later than Kalvin, that’s why I don’t know."

Then, speaking on City's win over Fulham, Guardiola added: "Everyone was exceptional. 65 minutes against Fulham to play the way we played, the moment of my period in Manchester by far, the score at the end and the celebrations with our people.

"We don't win the Premier League today, of course, but this moment makes sense of our jobs. All of us. Seeing the faces of our crowd. Making the pitch walk was really good."
