Pep Guardiola fury at Ederson after opening goal sums up Man City boss

Manchester City's win against Arsenal on Wednesday night was a crucial one in this season's title race, with a resounding 4-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium for Pep Guardiola's side.

Kevin de Bruyne opened the scoring within the first five minutes of the match, setting the tone for a dominant performance from the Blues. His goal was added to by John Stones just before half-time, with the Belgian claiming his second and City's third in the 54th minute before Erling Haaland completed the scoring in injury time after Rob Holding's 86th-minute consolation goal.

It was after the first goal where the character of Guardiola's City was shown, with the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss entering into a heated debate with Ederson. The City boss was seemingly annoyed at the Brazilian for a minor error he made prior to his team scoring and the pair had an exchange on the sidelines as the rest of the Etihad Stadium celebrated.

This was highlighted by TV presenter and Arsenal fan Piers Morgan, who branded Guardiola as the 'best manager in the world' following the win, with the interaction with his goalkeeper serving as the example.

The Talk TV presenter tweeted: "This was the moment I knew we were screwed last night. Guardiola breaking off celebrating De Bruyne’s brilliant 1st goal to berate Ederson for some tiny error nobody noticed. That’s why he’s the best manager in the world and why his teams are so relentless."

City are now two points behind Arsenal with two games in had over their rivals. Following the win, they are now in the box seat to claim the title in their continued push for a famous treble reminiscent of rivals Manchester United's achievements in 1999.

Wednesday night's win was a performance which showed the relentlessness of Manchester City, with four goals against the next best team in the league this season demonstrating the class which could propel them towards a treble. It would be the greatest achievement of Guardiola's seven-year reign at City, with the Spaniard already having won four Premier League titles.

Should City now go on to win the title, Guardiola will be widely praised for a third Premier League in a row. The last manager to achieve this feat in the Premier League was former Manchester United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, who achieved the feat between 2007 and 2009.

This led to Morgan also making the comparison between Guardiola and the legendary Scot. He added on talkSPORT: "I tweeted a moment when Guardiola pulled over Ederson for some tiny little mistake. It's a Ferguson mentality. It's that win at all costs, never ever give an inch."
