Pep Guardiola confirms major Man City injury blow for John Stones

Pep Guardiola expects to be without John Stones for three to four weeks after the Manchester City defender suffered a hamstring injury against Arsenal.

Guardiola was not pleased with Stones on the night for his decision to play after assessing that he was not ready, and the England international is now set for another spell on the sidelines. Stones is now set to miss crunch Premier League games with Tottenham and Arsenal as well as a tricky trip to RB Leipzig in the first round of the Champions League knockouts.

The centre-back had only recently returned from one absence after missing two cup games and the league derby with United, but must now work his way back to full fitness again. City, meanwhile, will have to cope without another key player having allowed Joao Cancelo to leave on loan before the transfer window closed.

In better news, Guardiola did say that Phil Foden is fit to feature at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - a ground where City have never even scored, never mind won a point. Foden has missed the last few games after suffering a foot issue in the derby that he struggled to run off completely, but should be in the squad for the crunch Premier League game.

Erling Haaland missed a day of training earlier in the week, although it is understood that was for personal reasons rather than any injury concerns.
