Pep Guardiola confirms Man City injury blow ahead of Liverpool double header

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says he only has two players unavailable with a double headers against Liverpool looming.

Liverpool still have a chance of winning an unprecedented quadruple, following their success in the Carabao Cup. Guardiola’s outfit could win a treble should they pip the Reds to the Champions League, FA Cup and Premier League.

Jurgen Klopp has spoken about Liverpool’s current injury list, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Naby Keita the only doubts going into this weekend’s round of matches. For City, they were handed potential fitness scares on some of their players during the international break.

Jurgen Klopp has expressed his delight over the confirmation that Liverpool and other Premier League clubs will be able to make five substitutions during matches next season.

It has been confirmed by the football governing body that clubs will be able to make five substitutions during a match, which comes into effect from next season. The change was made following a vote by Premier League shareholders on Thursday.

Nine players will continue to be named on the bench, and the substitutions can be made at three different intervals during a match. Most of the top leagues across Europe had implemented the five substitutes rule since the start of the pandemic, with the Premier League the only league to stick to three before this week’s announcement.

The Premier League did bring in the change temporarily for Project Restart in the summer of 2020, but it has not been used since the final matches of the 2019/20 season. Klopp has been a strong advocate for the introduction of the use of five substitutes, and he has now got his wish.
