Pep Guardiola is close to signing a new Manchester City contract that could keep him at the Etihad for another two years. The Catalan was in Abu Dhabi over the weekend, attending the Formula 1 Grand Prix, and he has been able to hold talks with club chiefs over his contract situation.
Guardiola's current contract expires at the end of this season but there has been growing confidence recently that he will extend his stay beyond that.
This is his seventh campaign at the Etihad and he's never stayed at any club for longer than four years previously, but a two-year deal could keep him at City until 2025 and take him to nine years in charge.

The six-week break for the World Cup has given Guardiola and club bosses a chance to sit down and hold talks over the future. Guardiola was in Abu Dhabi over the weekend and will return to the Gulf state for a training camp with his squad in the first week of December.
Asked about his contract situation before City's final game of the first stage of the season, Guardiola said: " Everything is under control, it’s perfect, the decision will be made together with the club the moment it has to be made."
There is now the possibility Guardiola could even stay at the Etihad for a decade and this season the Blues are chasing a fifth Premier League title in the last six years, with the Champions League still a major motivating factor for the club.
Speaking before the Brentford game earlier this month, Guardiola revealed he couldn't see himself repeating the length of stay he's had at the Etihad with any other club.
"Stay in another place for seven years? No, I don’t think so. It is difficult to find what I have here as a manager," he said.
"To be a manager for a long time you need to be so supported, the results help a lot, that is undeniable. In this world they sack you, they fire you, we know that.
"But part of that is at big clubs the part of the success of the manager is the chairman, sporting director especially and all the people here. It goes to the media, fans and players, there is stability. This is why I think only in few clubs this can happen."
Guardiola signed his last contract in November 2020, when it was also in its final year, and that was also a two-year extension.
