People urged to be 'mindful' of fellow visitors to Lanarkshire forests this Easter weekend

Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) is inviting people who are planning an Easter weekend visit to a Lanarkshire forest to be "mindful" to get the most out of their day.

With thousands of visitors expected to head for the great outdoors, FLS is reminding everyone that a bit of kindness and consideration - towards other visitors and to FLS staff - will go a long way to helping everyone have a great day out.

The simple message is "plan ahead, be prepared and behave responsibly".

Stuart Chalmers, FLS visitor services manager, told Lanarkshire Live : "Being outdoors is a great boost for health and well-being and we’re expecting to welcome thousands of visitors over the Easter weekend.

“With hundreds of visitor destinations to choose from around the country, there is something for everyone.

“We want to make sure that everyone has as enjoyable a visit as possible. We are asking all visitors to be mindful of communities, other visitors, nature and our staff when visiting our forests.

“Sunny weather will mean it won’t just be you who’s thinking about visiting, so plan ahead, park safely, and consider alternative sites to visit if your first choice is too busy when you arrive.

“We would also encourage people to take pride in Scotland’s beautiful countryside and respect it, protect it and enjoy it.”

Some forests in the East and South of Scotland remain closed for safety reasons so visitors are advised to check online for the latest updates on all FLS’ destinations.

Visitors are also being asked to take their litter home and not to light campfires.
