People 'super emotional' after driver stops bus to help elderly man across busy road in pouring rain

A Valleys bus driver has won praise after stopping their bus to help an OAP passenger across a busy road in the pouring rain. The kind act elicited a huge response on social media after it was captured on camera by a passing lorry driver.

Trucker Adam Jones uploaded the snap to Facebook after spotting the Stagecoach bus, bound for Blaencwm in the Rhondda, pull up on the main road through Treorchy earlier today (Wednesday, March 29). The 30-year-old from Tonyrefail then saw the driver alight and escort the elderly man safely across the road - even assisting him in putting up an umbrella to stop him from getting soaked.

"Bus drivers too often come in for criticism, said Adam. "That's why I just had to share this post." You can get more great stories like this and other news updates straight to your inbox by subscribing to our newsletters here.

Explaining that he didn't get a good a enough view of the driver to work out if it was a man or a woman, he added: "Not only did they help this elderly gentleman off the bus, they then walked him across the road - all the while stopping any oncoming traffic.

"In fact, they also accompanied him down the street to where he needed to be and even helped him put his umbrella up. It's the little things that go a long way these days. Well done to whoever this bus driver is," he added. "I just hope they get the recognition they deserve."

And there was lots of similar praise from those reading online. "Don't get many nice people about anymore - we need more like that," posted one person. Another said they were "super emotional" at the sight. A third - who claimed to have been travelling on the same bus - said the driver was female and had walked the passenger to his nearby dental appointment after he hit his head exiting the vehicle.

"They checked him over at the dentist and another patient then took him home - he was ok but shook up, bless him," they said. Stagecoach has been approached for comment.
