One man, who asked not to be named said: “I just heard this massive thud sound and heard a load of commotion in the street.
“When I looked out of the window I saw a load of people in the street, with one person giving the lad CPR.
“The air ambulance came later and he was taken away on a stretcher. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and I hope he makes a speedy recovery.”
The boy was taken to hospital in a serious condition. The driver of the Ford stopped at the scene and is assisting police with enquiries.
Around a dozen police cars were at the scene as officers put a cordon in place along the road.
Accident investigation teams arrived at the scene a short time later and started placing evidence markers. They then started mapping the scene using a 3D scanner.
The car involved had visible damage to the bonnet, headlight and bumper and items of clothing could be seen in the middle of the road.
Chief Inspector Bobby Woodhall said: “We have now launched an investigation into the collision and would urge anyone who witnessed the incident, or has CCTV and dashcam footage to please contact us.
“Every piece information is vitally important to our investigation to establish what happened.”
