People on the move: key North East appointments and promotions

Swinburne Maddison LLP has announced five further appointments to its corporate and commercial team.

The Durham law firm appointed Matt Ray from the Teesside office of a national law firm with experience in M&A and corporate reorganisations. Jess Stevens has also joined, with six years of post-qualification experience in private client services focusing on lifetime planning arrangements and family trusts. Recently qualified Ashley Patterson, who has trained with the firm, will provide support to all partners in the team in transactional matters, and Niamh Wilson and Brooke Jefferson have accepted training contracts in the corporate team.

Partner and head of the corporate and commercial team, Martyn Tennant, said: “I believe the depth of resource in our corporate and commercial team now allows us to push our service offering to the next level. We are now able to field a corporate and commercial team that is comparable in size to those of any regional practice, meaning that more complex and labour-intensive engagements are firmly within the team’s capabilities.”

Newcastle law firm Mincoffs has increased its number of partners to 13 and welcomed two associate solicitors.

Lydia McCaslin, head of wills, trusts and probate, has been promoted to partner and Mincoffs has also promoted Max Gilchrist to associate solicitor in the corporate team, and Rachel Smith progresses to associate solicitor in the family team.

Earlier this year, the firm announced a raft of appointments across its IT, commercial and private client offering – bringing the number of fee earners in the wills, trust and probate team to six – and has plans to expand further in the coming months.

Senior partner and head of corporate, Paul Hughes, said: “Lydia, Rachel and Max are assets to Mincoffs and we are delighted to see them progress in their careers at the firm. Renewable energy firm Banks Renewables has appointed experienced industry professional Anne Stevenson as its new head of technical.

Ms Stevenson brings almost two decades’ renewables and sustainability experience to her new role, which involves managing the technical aspects of Banks’ various renewable energy projects by enhancing supply chain strategies, supporting new project innovation and ensuring best practice is adopted across the firm’s growing project portfolio.

Her experience encompasses a range of different technologies, including onshore and offshore wind, hydrogen, solar and battery storage systems, and she has worked across every aspect of the development, delivery and operation of renewable energy projects.

She said: “I’d enjoyed working with the Banks team on their Armistead and Penny Hill Wind Farms, and it always felt like a very welcoming and friendly company, an impression that’s been fully reinforced since I joined. This is the first time I’ve worked on the development side of the renewables industry, and the experience I have in project development, supply chain management, technical analysis and in construction and operation phases will be key to fulfilling this new role.

“There’s been a huge amount of progress made in the renewable energy sector since I came into the industry, but there’s a lot more still to do and we’re going to see things like solar, battery storage and hydrogen power coming even more to the fore in the next few years.”

North East electrical test and measurement company Seaward Electronic has announced several senior appointments.

Kyle Fitzgerald has been promoted to IT manager at the Peterlee firm while its instrumentation calibration services brand Calibrationhouse is boosted by promotions for Andrew Simpson and Tom Worthy, who become manager and lab manager respectively. Chad Murray steps up to the role of Seaward Electronic’s quality lead while other appointments see Brett Spence become a junior production engineer, Natasha Kirkup a junior buyer, Toni Wells a management accountant and Jade Fitzgerald an assistant accountant.

SPG Resourcing has appointed Mhairi Allan as associate director to drive the expansion of its Newcastle office.

Ms Allan has held senior roles in the recruitment industry, most recently as an expert in Amazon Web Services professionals.

SPG Resourcing helps companies and organisations across the digital sector find the talent they need. It operates nationally from offices in Newcastle and Leeds. The business is growing quickly and expects revenue to double to £7m and create an additional 10 jobs in the next 12 months.

Ms Allan, said: “The technology sector is growing rapidly in Newcastle and, thanks to our national reach, we are well positioned to attract new talent to the region and help to address the skills gap. SPG Resourcing brings a fresh approach to helping digital teams find the talent they need to deliver projects.”
