Even the most seasoned cook will find themselves accidentally pouring a gush of oil into a pan instead of a controlled drizzle.
If you don't pitch a bottle of oil just so, your perfectly cooked food could be swimming in the stuff before you know it. But rather than accept that as an unfortunate eventuality, one cooking fan has pointed out the obvious.
People have been gobsmacked to discover a use for the pull tab on oil bottles. Rather than throw them away, Cooking Cards on TikTok has demonstrated how they should be saved for a clever hack.
People's minds have been blown by a trick shared on the TikTok channel that showed how to utilise the ring pull - rather than just throwing it in the bin.
He said: "Ah, don't you hate it when you're pouring oil and it makes a mess everywhere? Well, I do, and trust me, try this hack and you will thank me later."
He then shows how to remove it as normal, but turns it upside down and pushes it back into bottle. Its placement means the oil will be forced to go around the pull tab, preventing the oil from gushing out of the bottle.
In the comments, people were wondering how they hadn't realised the hack sooner, as they'd been overpouring for a long time.
One wrote: "Omg how did I not know this".
Another commented: "Brilliant! I'll be using this!"
"I've lived my whole life not knowing this", someone else fumed.
"Wait... what! Brilliant, a TikToker praised.
