People 'infuriated' as they struggle to work out whether Mini Cheddars are crisps or not

It's the sort of debate you might have with your friends at 3am - but no one ever seems to be 100 per cent certain on the answer.

What are Mini Cheddars? Are they crisps, crackers, biscuits - or a whole new category of their own?

The pointless but strangely-divisive argument has resurfaced on Reddit - and it's already attracted nearly 2,000 comments.

The true nature of Mini Cheddars has repeatedly been called into question, yet more than 30 years since the bite-size snack was first invented, people are still trying to figure out the answer.

Annoyingly, even the Jacob's website doesn't offer a definitive explanation.

Described as ‘baked snacks’ in a lot of branded content, there’s plenty of room for interpretation.

They share traits of both biscuits and crackers but are often found in the crisp aisle of a supermarket.

Raising the question on Reddit last month, one user wrote: "It’s time to settle some scores… are Mini Cheddars crisps?"

Among the hundreds of comments was one that seemed to make some sense, but had started another debate of its own. The person wrote: "No, they are crackers that belong in the crisp aisle. Like Jaffa Cakes are cakes that belong in the biscuit aisle."

Another user commented only to shut down 'Team Crisps', saying: "I will fight anyone who thinks these are crisps."

A further comment rebuffed the biscuit argument: "So if I asked you to pop to the shop for some biscuits, and you asked what kind, and I said 'Mini cheddars', you'd be okay with that?"

Someone else argued the snacks were in a class of their own, writing: "I trust the judgement of the local landlord. 'Can I get you any crisps, nuts or Mini Cheddars?' They're obviously in a class of their own."

While a different user simply commented: "Cheesy biscuits."

Another Reddit user's comment only confused the debate further. They wrote: "The big ones are in the biscuits aisle, the small ones are in the crisps aisle. The debate goes on."

And one frustrated reader summarised the feeling of the nation, saying: "I’m angry with myself for not knowing the answer."

So, let's settle this. What are Mini Cheddars? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
