People in the UK: how have you been affected by authorised push payment scams?

The Payment Systems Regulator (PSR) is to slash the planned maximum amount that banks will have to refund to fraud victims – from £415,000 to about £85,000 – in what consumer groups have called ‘outrageous’.

Fraud in the UK payments industry has soared in recent years, with a sharp rise in authorised push payment (APP) scams, which often involve email accounts being hacked to trick people into sending money to bank accounts operated by criminals.

We want to hear from those who have been affected by APP scams and what their experience has been like. How did your bank respond? If you were able to claim compensation, how much of your money was recovered? We’re also interested in hearing from those who have been affected by other forms of fraud or scams.
