People horrified by text sent to Irish Communion party guests before event

A text that was sent to guests who were invited to a Communion party in Ireland has left people horrified.

The controversial message was was shared on local radio station, Clare FM, and garnered a massive reaction online, Galway Beo reports.

While it is common for people to put some money in a card for children making their First Communion, the person organising the party asked guests to give the money in advance to help cover the cost of the party venue.

A screenshot of the message read: "The venue for the Communion has had a price increase on the initial quote for catering on Saturday...obviously it's our cost, but if you want to drop the cards for [name] in advance it would be helpful. Can't wait to see you."

It's safe to say, once people read the message they were stunned at what was being asked of guests.

One person said: "I wouldn't go if I got a text like that. It's up to the people what they give once they give something to the child. Nothing worse than people coming and giving no card or gift to a child."

Another said: "The money is suppose to be for the child so they can choose what to do with it or save it somewhere."

Another person who saw the text said they: "Wouldn't go at all. But I would give a gift voucher to the child, which could only be of benefit to the child."

A third commented that "it must be a joke", saying: "That's dreadful, I would not go and I'd take a very dim view of anybody sending me a message like that."
