People 'haven't used the heating' since buying them, but how do Oodies compare with Primark Snuddies?

Oversized hoodies, wearable blankets, whatever you want to call them, they're all the rage this year as people look for ways to keep their costs down.

With energy bills soaring, most families are trying to use the heating as little as possible to avoid a hefty gas bill.

People are saying they've stopped them from having to turn the heating on.

While not specifically promoting the Oodie brand, one woman said: "Invested in an oversized hoodie blanket to snuggle up in, not used heating since."

And one mum-of-two told us how her family's Oodies have been a godsend for keeping her and her kids warm both at home and on trips in their campervan.

So how good are they? We decided to put them to the test against Primark's Snuddies to see how they fare as the chillier weather sets in.

We compared the Oodie (right) with Primark's Snuddies (Manchester Family / MEN)

Having ordered the Oodies online here, a trip to Primark was necessary for the Snuddies as they don't do delivery.

I was told that the children's Oodies are suitable for ages three to 13, but most tweens tend to opt for the adult size to give them a bit more room, so with my kids aged 11 and 13, we went for four adult sizes - a bit more expensive but it means they'll get longer out of them.

The choice of patterns is endless - from koalas, penguins and dog designs, to Harry Potter, Friends, Rick and Morty and a whole lot more - so you can imagine it took a while for us to pick them.

Primark has a pretty decent selection too, but getting your hands on them isn't as easy. While the website is full of them, the choice in store was limited, and that was with visiting two branches - both the Trafford Centre one and Wigan.

The only option for men was the Dragon Ball Z one, a Japanese anime television series we'd never heard of, but it looked pretty cosy so I picked that one up anyway.

My son had to go for a children's size - there weren't many of those left either - but the 'L-XL' goes to 170cm so his Spider-Man one was plenty big enough.

The Oodies are generally longer than similar products sold by other retailers (Manchester Family / MEN)

With the weather getting colder, it was the perfect time to give them a go and we were all pretty comfortable once we had them on. The only downside to mine was the fluff it left on my black T-shirt underneath, something I've had an issue with before when buying my son a onesie from there.

Other than that we had no complaints and were all toasty warm to watch some TV before bed.

A day or so later the Oodies arrived and it was clear just from the size of the box, how big these were going to be.

On releasing them from their wrappers, it felt as though they inflated before our eyes, especially my bright pink Looney Tunes Tweety one - don't judge, the kids have already done that - which seemed almost like it had been vacuum packed.

In fact that's the first thing we noticed really - how thick they are compared with the Snuddies.

When Oodie tells you that every one 'is made from toasty-warm sherpa fleece on the inside and buttery-soft, Toastytek flannel fleece on the outside' it all just sounds like advertising waffle doesn't it.

But whatever is it, it works - mine has certainly been keeping me warm when working from home. And the fact that the Oodies are slightly longer and wider, with bigger hoods and thicker padded sleeves too, just gives them an added level of comfort.

It was only my husband who noticed little difference between his Oodie and his Snuddie, but his did seem thicker than the other Primark ones and there was no difference in length at all.

You've probably already guessed there's a price difference here. With Oodies starting from around £47 and Snuddies from £10, you're obviously going to go with whatever suits your budget.

But from sampling them both, if you can stretch to the more expensive ones, your body will thank you for it this winter and if that extra warmth means you can keep that thermostat turned down, your bank balance might end up benefiting in the long run too.

You can buy the Oodie here.
