A large yellow python has gone missing from a home in Nottinghamshire, and a local councillor has said "people are frightened" because of it. Nottinghamshire Police was made aware the snake was reported missing from a property in Blandford Road, Chilwell, on Wednesday (July 13).
The python is still understood to be missing at this time. The animal is thought to not pose a risk to other people or animals.
But a local councillor has said that a number of people are "scared" in the area, and have purposefully stayed at home to avoid coming into contact with it. Labour councillor for Broxtowe Borough Council, Helen Skinner, who represents Chilwell West, also gave out advice to local residents.

Speaking to Nottinghamshire Live, she said: "I would ask people to remain calm and vigilant if they do come across it. Some people are frightened to go out, they've avoided walking their dogs or going to their allotments.
"People are worried about it. I'm not sure if it might be to do with the hot weather."
Police are trying to reunite the snake with its owner. They're urging people to not approach it if they see it, but to report it.
Neighbourhood Policing Inspector for Broxtowe, Mike Ebbins, said: "We were made aware that a large yellow python had been reported as missing from a property in Blandford Road, Chilwell, on Thursday (July 13). We would ask anyone who spots the animal to get in touch with us and advise the public not to approach the reptile but instead wait for the police and RSPCA to attend to capture it."
Anyone who spots the snake is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 243 of July 13.
