People 'flee scene' at Crosshouse Hospital after 'explosion' heard in car park

Emergency services have descended on Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock after two loud bangs were heard in the car park.

It's understood smoke was spotted pouring from a car moments before people were seen fleeing from the motor.

Police have confirmed they're dealing with an ongoing incident following an explosion at around 2.30pm. Two people have been taken to hospital following the incident.

A soft-top BMW motor has been taped off by police and several cops remain at the scene which appears to be near the combined assessment unit in between A&E and the maternity unit.

Glass can also be seen on the ground and on the bonnets of nearby cars.

A source said: "I've been told that two loud bangs could be heard and that smoke was seen pouring from a car and then people were spotted running away."

Officers investigating have said that there doesn't appear to be any suspicious circumstances.

This evening, a police van and car remain at the scene along with two uniformed cops and two CID officers.

A statement read: "Emergency services are currently dealing with an incident outside Crosshouse Hospital where a car exploded around 2.30pm.

"A man and a woman are being treated in hospital.

"Enquiries into the cause are ongoing however there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances."
