People are just realising the 'correct' way to wash broccoli

We all know it's important to wash fruits and vegetables before we eat them to make sure they're clean and free of bacteria.

But while most of us just run them under the tap or rinse them through with a colander, it turns out there is a more specific technique required when it comes to washing broccoli. People on social media have been left gobsmacked to learn they've been "doing it wrong".

It comes after TikTok user Sidney Raz took to the social media platform to share the "life hack", as reported in the Mirror.

In the video, he said: "Here's something I didn't know until I was in my 30s. Broccoli should be rinsed from the bottom."

The video has now been viewed by more than 1.3million people, and Sidney can first be seen turning the tap on over a bunch of broccoli, and the water can be seen bouncing off the top and running down the sides. He then turns the broccoli upside down and puts it back into the water stream, and it can then be seen travelling through the vegetable instead of bouncing off the top.

This makes it easier for the water to go inside all the crevices of the broccoli to make sure there's nothing hiding in between all the branches. People in the comment section were amazed by the simple, but effective change-up to the broccoli-washing routine.

One TikTok user said: "I actually didn’t know this hahah I always cut it up and soak", while a second said: "Well I've just found out and I'm in my 40s ffs". A third said: "How just how have we all been living so dang in the dark!??? I’m amazed every time another thing we didn't know".

A fourth added: "You're really changing my broccoli game [with] this discovery".
