People applaud Vaseline for its witty response to 'slugging' beauty trend

Beauty enthusiasts have praised Vaseline for its "hilarious" new advert showing their support toward the 'slugging' trend. Their simplistic advert shows an average-looking doughnut' before slugging' next to a shiny doughnut 'after slugging'

It has been created in direct response to the K-beauty trend that sees people covering their faces in a thin layer of an occlusive agent - like Vaseline - before going to bed at night. Originating in South Korea, slugging is said to leave the skin with a 'doughnut glazed' glow, which was made popular by Hailey Bieber last year.

In an Instagram post, Hayley is seen showing off her next-level glossy skin with the caption "glazed doughnut skin all 2022. Tell a friend." Commenting on Vaseline's advert, one user said: "Well played Vaseline! You earned a share with this one." Another user added: "This is all too much for me." A third user said: "Y'all knew what you were doing." One more user added: "Boy, I’ll tell u what Vaseline."

However, 'slugging' isn't for everyone as Marie Hayag M.D, board certified dermatologist and founder of 5th Avenue Aesthetics, says people with acne-prone skin should stay well away from the trend. She said on Prevention: "I don’t think slugging is suitable for anyone with acne-prone skin. Although petrolatum jelly is non-comedogenic, it’s too occlusive for acne-prone skin and can trap dead skin cells and other debris, which encourages bacterial overgrowth and acne breakouts."

According to Debra Jaliman, M.D, a board-certified dermatologist in NYC, slugging might just be another skincare fad. Rather than jumping onboard the trend, she recommends "sealing your skin with a highly hydrating cream containing ceramides and hyaluronic acid instead."
