Pentagon Investigating Military Connections Of New Year's Day Suspects

Scenes outside of the FBI building in Washington

The Pentagon was questioned on Friday regarding the potential military connections of the suspects involved in separate New Year's Day attacks in New Orleans and Las Vegas. Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh was asked specifically about Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, and whether he may have been radicalized during his time serving in the U.S. Army. Singh, in response, directed the inquiry to the FBI for further information.

Additionally, questions arose about the military background of Jabbar and Las Vegas suspect Matthew Alan Livelsberger, 37, who was identified as a former 'Green Beret.' Singh suggested that inquiries regarding their military service should be directed to the appropriate military authorities.

Jabbar's potential radicalization during his time in the U.S. Army was questioned.

Regarding a potential connection between the two events, Singh stated, 'I'm not tracking that there's an overlap in their service record.' She further added, 'That being said, I would refer you to the Army just to speak more to that. But at this moment, I'm not tracking that they had an overlap at any time.'
