Pensioner dies in Glasgow flat block fire as residents evacuated

A pensioner has died in a fire within a block of flats in the east end of Glasgow.

The 76-year-old woman died at the scene on Ruby Street in Dalmarnock following the blaze this morning (Friday, June 24).

Emergency services rushed to the scene after the alarm was raised at around 6.45am. Fire crews, police, and ambulance services were all in attendance.

Police Scotland has now confirmed the sad death of the pensioner. Officers say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.

Other residents were evacuated from the flat block by emergency services amid the ongoing fire.

A spokeswoman said: "A 76-year-old woman died at the scene on Ruby Street, Glasgow. Emergency services were called at around 6.45am.

"There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death. A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
