A pensioner has died following an early-morning horror crash on the A98 in Moray.
The incident took place close to the roundabout junction with the A96 east of Fochabers, near Elgin, around around 4.25am today.
The 83-year-old was rushed to Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin but she was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.
She had been driving a red Vauxhall Astra and was the sole occupant of the car.
Her next of kin has been made aware.
Cops locked down the rural road following the smash.
The A98 remains closed more than 10 hours later as officers continue to probe the incident.
Officers are appealing for anyone who may have information about the smash or dashcam footage from the area to come forward.
Sergeant Steve Manson of the North East Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and friends at this difficult time.
“Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
"I would urge anyone who may have information or dashcam footage from the area this morning to get in touch.
“Please pass any information on by calling 101, quoting incident 0320 of March 4, 2022.”
