Steven McCulloch, 39, was charged in connection with the incident and he appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court on Tuesday. Officers have now confirmed the pensioner has died and their enquiries into the incident remain ongoing.

McCulloch appeared in private on Tuesday charged with assault to severe injury and permanent disfigurement. He was also accused of a breach of resisting, obstructing or hindering police officers and a further allegation of assault.
