A pensioner has been fined for causing the death by careless driving of a 44-year-old man. Margaret Atkinson, 74, of Plum Tree Close, Big Lane, Clarborough, Retford, pleaded guilty earlier this month.
She returned to Nottingham Magistrates' Court for sentencing on Monday (February 20) and was fined £734, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £294, and costs of £85.
The victim was Steven Fowler who was crossing the road when the collision happened. He died after being struck by her car. Officers were called to Wharf Road, Retford, after reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and the road was closed after the incident. It happened at around 6.55pm on Monday, February 14, last year.
A police spokesperson said at the time Mr Fowler was taken to hospital but sadly died from his injuries on the evening of Wednesday, February 16.
Sergeant Craig Luckett, of Nottinghamshire Police’s Road Policing and Serious Collision Investigation Unit, had said: “Steven has sadly passed away in hospital following this tragic incident.His family are aware and our thoughts are with them at this extremely difficult time"
