Penrith lock in Kenny, Timoko nets new Raiders deal

Mitch Kenny has given premiers Penrith further stability, inking a three-year NRL contract extension that keeps the nucleus of the Panthers squad together for the foreseeable future.

On the same day Canberra announced a new year deal for strike centre Matt Timoko, Kenny's new contract will give the Panthers some assurances heading into 2025.

Jarome Luai will be the latest big-name Penrith player to leave for greater riches when he moves to Wests Tigers next season.

But Kenny's retention ensures he, Nathan Cleary, Dylan Edwards, Isaah Yeo, Moses Leota, Liam Martin, Brian To'o and Izack Tago are all locked in at the club for the next three seasons.

James Fisher-Harris, Scott Sorensen and Taylan May are also on deals that run until the end of 2026.

"Ivan Cleary and everyone at the club have supported me from the beginning, and I'm excited to repay the faith to them," Kenny said.

"It's great to have the opportunity to continue wearing the Panthers jersey and representing our community for another three seasons."

Meanwhile, Canberra's retention of Timoko is another significant coup for the Raiders after the 24-year-old's rise to Test honours for his native New Zealand.

Timoko's new deal runs until the end of 2026 but has options which could keep him at a club until the end of 2028.

"The big thing I can see with this club is there is a clear pathway of where they want to get to," said Timoko, who has 20 tries in 64 NRL games for the Green Machine.

"There's a lot of emerging talent and I really believe that this club can do a lot of special things over the next couple of years."
