Penpont Gala celebrations cap a week of fun and games

Penpont’s Gala celebrations on Saturday capped a week of fun, games and activities for all.

Buccleuch and Queensberry Pipe Band led the royal party through the village followed by a superb fancy dress parade which was well attended.

The previous Sunday, Gala Queen Mya Little was crowned by outgoing Queen Erin Fry, supported by attendant Quinn Robertson and page boy Toby Meredith. The day also saw scroll reader Angus Middlemiss read the declaration to the villagers, following the church service in the marquee.

The community enjoyed a teddy bear’s picnic and a quiz on the evening, with other gala week events including a delicious afternoon tea for the senior citizens and enjoyable entertainment by Penpont Pre-school, and Rene on the accordion. This was followed by an extremely successful football tournament organised by Morton Thistle, and Iain Currie’s car treasure hunt was a popular as ever.

On Friday evening there was an impressive turnout in the rain for the children’s Mud Mile which was extra muddy due to the weather. The now-famous Robbie’s Bingo with DJ Michael Smith was a sell-out once again and provided an evening of lively entertainment.

It paved the way for Saturday’s gala procession and an afternoon of great entertainment featuring more from the popular Buccleuch and Queensberry Pipe Band, Elite Falconry, Loreburn Archers, Mr B Loon inflatables and Let’s Get Sporty.

Dancing to Mary Barclay and Doug Carroll brought the fun-filled celebrations to a close on the evening.
