The Pennsylvania Senate race between incumbent Democrat Bob Casey and Republican challenger Dave McCormick is heading to a recount, as announced by Pennsylvania Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt on Wednesday. The race has been incredibly tight, with unofficial results showing it to be within the one-half of one percent margin required to trigger a recount under state law.
Currently, McCormick holds a lead of less than 30,000 votes over Casey, a margin that has been narrowing since Election Night. Despite this, McCormick has already attended new senator orientation in Washington this week, indicating confidence in his position.
Provisional and mail ballots are still being counted, and counties are expected to begin the recount process by November 20. The recount must be completed by November 26, with results to be reported to the state by the following day.
