Perhaps the most improbable ending to a football game at any level took place Friday in Pennsylvania.
Central Catholic was playing Penn Hills on Friday night.
Penn Hills goes for a 2-point conversion with 18 seconds left and converts to take a 28-27 lead.
One last gasp for Central Catholic winds up with an attempt at a 49-yard field goal.
The kick is blocked and Penn Hills goes wild, celebrating what it believes is a victory.
However, Central Catholic recovers the ball and runs it 32 yards for a game-winning touchdown.
Final score: Central Catholic 33, Penn Hills 28.
The kick was blocked, but while Penn Hills players celebrated their apparent victory, Central Catholic lineman Anthony Shovlin picked up the loose ball and ran 32 yards for a touchdown that gave his team a wild 33-28 win.
The play was legal because the ball never crossed the line of scrimmage after being blocked by Penn Hills’ Raion Strader right off the foot of Central Catholic kicker Rowen Kautter.
CENTRAL CATHOLICS WINS!!!
After Penn Hills converts a 2pt try with 18 seconds left to go up by one Central Catholic attempt, a 49-yard field goal that gets blocked by Penn Hills is then recovered and ran 50 yards into the end zone for a touchdown, and the 33-28 win. #HSSN #WPIAL pic.twitter.com/yyg6MwBpbs
